Patsy Walker - a.k.a. Hellcat - must have the quirkiest past of all mainstream supercharacters. An innocent ‘50’s era teen model published in Marvel’s line of Archie-type romance comics, under the creative impetus of Steve Englehart she miraculously jumped genres and trained to be a non-superpowered Avenger because it was fun. Then she married the son of Satan, committed suicide, and was brought back to life - saved from hell - by the Thunderbolts. She now sports metahuman powers. Talk about changes!
But remember: deep down inside she’s still just a normal girl.
It’s the only series I’ve done for Marvel, the only series I’ve done that was written by Steve Englehart, the second series I’ve done that featured a female lead, and I consider it some of my best work to date. I'd hoped at the time that it marked the beginning of a fruitful relationship with Marvel, and I was immensely dissappointed that it didn’t.
