I used to pray for a vision from God. I'm almost grateful now for the dead silence I was greeted by instead! If an angel had appeared, how would I know he was the real thing? Ask for his I.D.? It could just as well be a devil in disguise, or an extraterrestrial having fun with a "primitive human", or a secret C.I.A. super-science project, or even just my own madness!
The point is that all true meaning lies inside us. Even hard science is our own symbolic creation, "true" only to the degree that it suits our physical, mental, spiritual needs. It's all our mythology, growing out of and changing with us.
Solutions to our biggest problems are all mythopoeic (myth-making) in nature. Technology, business, politics and religions are mere mythologem. We... are the creative masters of myth.
